(Assata Shakur – Activist)
he nostalgia of this piece is from revolutionaries like Assata Shakur who resisted racial oppression and social violence while participating in student rights, anti-war, and black liberation efforts. In 1979, Shakur escaped from a maximum security prison, and travelled to Cuba in 1984 where she lives in exile. Her bold statement pieces were recognizable and always exuded a level of comfort mixed with functionality always paying tribute to her African roots. She remains a model as an activist willing to risk her life and freedom for the liberation of oppressed peoples.
